About MCQAG

Martins Creek Quarry Action Group is a non profit, incorporated body created to represent the combined communities of Martins Creek, Paterson, Vacy, Bolwarra Heights, Brandy Hills, Wallalong and Lorn in the fight against Daracon's proposed expansion of Martins Creek Quarry.

MCQAG has never sought for the closure of Martins Creek Quarry, however we believe in a future where residents living to the North East of Maitland can live and enjoy the natural beauty in vibrant productive communities without the threat of incompatible large scale extractive industry development. By in large Martins Creek Quarry and surrounding communities have managed to co-exist for 100 years extracting less than 300,000 tonne per year from the site.

MCQAG is contesting a proposed expansion of Martins Creek Quarry, which if approved will authorize the tripling of the extraction of rock from the facility with devastating impact to the local environment and impacted communities. The expansion as presented by Daracon will result in a lunar landscape being carved into the Allyn River Valley vista with intensification of extraction, blasting, dust and noise from the site, and extended hours of operations with multiple hundreds of truck movements along 26km of sub arterial council maintained roads through rural and urban communities six days per week.

Concerned residents were told by Daracon's Managing Director on the 31st July 2014 public meeting that “if the community don’t like their quarry activities then tuff luck” and “that they have no control of their sub contractors accessing the site” MCQAG felt it was time that the community has a voice

MCQAG holds regular meetings, information nights and other public events to keep our communities informed and inspired to rise up against this quarry expansion proposal. MCQAG will continue to work to ensure the NSW government understands community concerns and risks associated with this development proposal.
